What Is FGF-1?
Zhittya believes that a vast majority of degenerative diseases across the brain, the heart, and the rest of the body are caused by, or have an underlying cause of, a lack of blood flow to a particular region or tissue. As the body's smallest blood vessels slowly break down, the cells they feed are starved of oxygen and nutrients, and they begin to fail.
FGF-1 (Fibroblast Growth Factor-1) is one of the body's most powerful natural triggers for growing new blood vessels — a process called angiogenesis. Restoring that blood flow has the potential to treat the root cause of many of these conditions rather than just their symptoms.
Restoring Blood Flow to the Substantia Nigra
Zhittya believes Parkinson's is caused by a lack of blood flow to the dopamine-producing parts of the brain, particularly the substantia nigra. That loss of blood flow leads to the death of those neurons and the classic symptoms of Parkinson's, such as the drop in dopamine that produces tremors.
We have solid animal and human data behind this theory, having dosed over 250 Parkinson's patients, with the average patient reporting a 53% improvement in motor scores along with improvements seen in our fMRI studies. Brett Favre is among our patients and has become a public advocate and spokesperson for the program after his own experience with FGF-1.

Building the Heart's Own Natural Bypass
The same vascular principle applies directly to the heart. In coronary artery disease, the heart muscle is starved of blood because the vessels feeding it have narrowed or become blocked. FGF-1's ability to grow new blood vessels means it can, in effect, help the heart build its own natural bypass around those blockages — restoring blood flow to the heart muscle.
This is one of the oldest and most established parts of our science: FGF-1 has prior Phase IIA FDA clinical data in coronary artery disease, and the same angiogenic mechanism extends to related conditions.

Beyond Blood Flow Alone
FGF-1's effects also extend beyond blood flow. A growing body of independent research has shown that a single dose of FGF-1 can normalize blood-glucose levels and effectively reverse the symptoms of Type-2 Diabetes — work demonstrated at the National Institute of Health (2014), Yale University (2015), Howard Hughes (2015), and the Salk Institute (2021 and 2022), among others.
Building on that science, Zhittya has secured permission to conduct its own Type-2 Diabetes research studies in Las Vegas and has so far treated 85 patients, with the vast majority seeing a reversal in their Type-2 Diabetes symptoms, particularly their blood-glucose levels.
A Shared Root Cause: Reduced Blood Flow
Because the underlying mechanism is vascular, we believe FGF-1 has potential across a wide range of neurological conditions that share the same root cause of reduced blood flow.
The vascular mechanism is especially well-documented in Alzheimer's: in the largest study of its kind, McGill University researchers analyzed nearly 8,000 brain imaging studies across 1,171 Alzheimer's patients and found that microvascular breakdown is the very first detectable change in Alzheimer's — preceding the amyloid plaques, the brain atrophy, and the cognitive decline by years. Notably, in our Parkinson's program we have seen patients and families report substantial improvements in memory and cognition alongside their motor gains, which points to the same blood-flow mechanism at work.
